Foreign Language & Culture Institute

Flag

With the international business environment expanding drastically, it is vital for businesses in France to be able to conduct business in English as well as French. As a language institute, we aim to assist businesspeople who lack English proficiency through intensive language classes. This institute will provide businesses with language, cultural, and social skills.

The Eur-Am Center is developing its Foreign Language & Culture Institute to meet the needs of businesses in the Center Region. As language is only one aspect of culture, classes also include introductions to Anglo-Saxon etiquette and values.

The Abbey at Pontlevoy is close to many regional centers:

  • 25 kilometers from Blois
  • population: 49,171
  • 25 kilometers from Amboise
  • population: 12,000
  • 55 kilometers from Tours
  • population: 132,820

The Abbey has close links with the United States of America as many of its staff are native english speakers. Furthermore, many U.S.-based study abroad programs are also housed at The Abbey, providing many opportunities for cultural interactions.

Sample programs will include, but are not limited to:

    • An intensive language lecture, lasting 45 minutes to 1 hour, taught by an accredited ESL teacher.
    • A tea/coffee break during which interaction between staff and students takes place.
    • A session in our Language Laboratory, making use of books, CDs and multimedia resources.
    • A 45-minute language course concentrating on Business English.
    • A typical American dinner, served family-style.
    • Entertainment, including videos/DVDs and interaction with staff and Abbey residents.

If you have another type of program in mind, please do not hesitate to contact us. Sessions may be tailored to suit your business’ needs.

The Institute also offers students and social anthropologists the opportunity to study present day Western European societies and cultures.

Program studies include topics such as Western European political, economic, and civil society, and how the changes brought about by the European Union have affected these institutions. Students will reside at The Abbey, living alongside the very people they study. They will be able to study linguistics (the study of the sounds and grammar of languages), and the French language. Students may participate in foreign language classes suited to their specific level of proficiency.
